Purdue Fort Wayne’s Mens Golf Team Finishes 12th in the ECU Intercollegiate

Purdue Fort Wayne men’s golf team finished 12th out of 16 colleges at the ECU Collegiate. This event started yesterday and finished this afternoon.

PFW had one golfer finish in the top 20. This was Kasey Lilly who shot 76 in round one, 74 in round two and 74 in round three. His total score of 224 had him tied for 19th out of 90 golfers.

Four other Mastodon golfers took part in the event, Burke Pitz, Hunter Mefford, Nick Holder and Jadden Ousley.

Pitz finished the event tied at 46th. He shot 82 in the first round, 72 in the second round and 76 for a total score of 230.

Mefford finished 58th in the event. He shot 82 in round one, 73 in round two and 77 in round three for a total score of 232.

Holder and Ousley finished the event tied for 67th. Holder shot 80 in round one, 79 in round two and 76 in round three for a total score of 235. Ousley shot 78 in round one, 75 in round two and 82 in round three for a total score of 235.

PFW finished the event with a team score of 913.

East Carolina won the event with a total score of 882. They were led by Lucas Augustsson who won the event with a score of 213.

The Mastodons next time out will be March 27 where they will take part in the Butler Spring Invitational.

Purdue Fort Wayne Women’s Golf Team Finishes 6th in Nevel Meade Collegiate

Purdue Fort Wayne women’s golf team finished 6th out of 13 colleges at the Nevel Mead Collegiate. This event started yesterday and finished this afternoon.

PFW had one golfer finish in the top 15. This was Anna Olafsdottir who shot 80 in round one and 75 in round two. Her total score of 155 had her tied for 14th out of 78 golfers.

Four other Mastodon golfers took part in the event, Laura Caetano, Amy Dagsdottir, Luiza Caetano and Natalie Papa.

Laura Caetano finished the event tied at 17th. She shot 81 in the first round and 75 in the second round for a total score of 156.

Dagsdottir and Luiza Caetano finished tied for 32nd. Dagsdottir shot 84 in round one and 77 in round two for a total score of 161. Caetano shot 81 in round one and 80 in round two for a total score of 161.

Papa finished tied for 61st. She shot 86 in round one and 83 in round two for a total score of 169.

Central Michigan won the event with a total score of 602. They were led by Casilda Allendesalazar who won the event with a score of 144.

The Mastodons next time out will be April 15 where they will take part in the Lady Jaguar Invitational.

Purdue Fort Wayne’s Baseball Team Loses 6-8 to Bowling Green University

Purdue Fort Wayne’s baseball team lost today, 6-8, against Bowling Green University. PFW made it a close game but could not finish their comeback.

Bowling Green had a better day at the plate than the Mastodons as they 10 hits and six RBIs. The Mastodons only had five hits but had six RBIs.

PFW had two batters go yard today as Calieb Johnson and Brooks Sailors hit home runs.

Sailors was PFW’s best batter as he went 1/3 batting, sent home three RBIs and got on base off a walk.

PFW pitchers, Colin Bauer and Kevin Fee had struggles today. Bauer allowed allowed three runs in two innings pitched giving him a 13.50 ERA. Fee allowed three runs in three innings pitched for a 9.00 ERA.

With the win Bowling Green has moved to 5-12 on the season.

With the loss PFW falls to 4-17 on the season.

The Mastodons next game will be Friday against Northern Kentucky. This is PFW’s home opener and will be the start of a three game weekend series.

Purdue Fort Wayne’s Baseball Team Wins One of Three Games In Weekend Series Against Wright State

Purdue Fort Wayne’s baseball team collect one win this weekend in a three game series against Wright State.

This was an important series for the Mastodons as Wright State is the reigning champions of the Horizon League.

PFW’s weekend series started on Friday with a double header where they collected their lone win in the first game. The team had Saturday off before the series ended Sunday afternoon.

The Mastodons won the first game of the series 12-10. Jacob Walker was PFW’s best batter as he went 3/5, scored two runs and drove in two RBIs.

Bryce Martens got the win and Mac Ayers got the save for PFW. Ayers led PFW with three strikeouts in this game.

PFW’s second game of Friday ended as a 2-6 loss. PFW struggled batting in this game as they only had three hits as a team.

PFW’s best batter in this game was Ben Higgins as he went 1/4, scored a run, and drove in two RBIs.

PFW’s Enas Hayden took the loss as he allowed three runs in one inning.

The series came to an end today in a 4-13 loss. PFW did better batting in this game, but the team pitched poorly.

PFW’s best batter in this game was Jacob Walker who went 2/5 and scored one run.

PFW’s Jacob Meyer took the loss today as he allowed six runs in 2.2 innings.

PFW is now 4-16 on the season and are 1-2 in Horizon League Play.

PFW’s next matchup will be Tuesday against Bowling Green.

Home play will begin for the Mastodons as they have a three game weekend series against Northern Kentucky.

Purdue Fort Wayne Men’s Volleyball Team Hands Loyola Chicago Their First MIVA Loss

Purdue Fort Wayne men’s volleyball team defeated #9 ranked Loyola Chicago yesterday in five sets, 3-2. Set scores were 25-18, 27-25, 23-25, 20-25, and 15-12.

This was the first time that Loyola has lost in MIVA play this year.

The Mastodons had a good serving night as they had seven aces compared to Loyola’s three. Mark Frazier led PFW in this stat with three aces. Loyola was led by Dan Mangun who had two.

Loyola led the match in kills. They had 58 kills compared to PFW’s 51. Loyola was led by Cole Schlothauer and Parker Van Buren who each had 19. PFW was led in this stat by Jon Diedrich who had 19.

With their loss Loyola fell to 17-3 on the season. They are now 8-1 in conference play. They remain 1st in the MIVA.

Their next matchup will come against Lewis University on Thursday.

With the win PFW moved to 13-9 on the season. They are 4-4 in conference play. They are tied for 6th in the MIVA with Lewis University.

PFW’s next matchup will be Thursday against McKendree.

Purdue Fort Wayne Men’s Volleyball Team Loses In Straight Sets to #14 Ranked Charleston

Purdue Fort Wayne men’s volleyball team was defeated in straight sets, 3-0, tonight by #14 ranked Charleston.

PFW was able to keep the match tight all night but would just fall short in each set.

The Mastodons led the match in kills as they had 46 compared to Charleston’s 42. Jon Diedrich led PFW in this stat with 14 kills. In the third set Diedrich reached his 1,000th career kill.

Garret Schnitker led Charleston with 14 kills.

While PFW gathered more kills than Charleston, they also gathered more attack errors. PFW had 21 attack errors while Charleston just had eight.

PFW also struggled with their hitting percent as they hit .248% as a team. Charleston did better in this statistic as they hit .447%.

Charleston had the upper hand in blocks as they had 11 total blocks to PFW’s four. Charleston had 22 block assists and PFW had just six. Charleston was led in this stat by Diego Villafane, Veit Bils, and Will Kimenhour who each had five. PFW was led in blocks by Axel Melendez Watts, Mark Frazier, Carlos Mercado, and Bryce Walker who each had two.

With the win Charleston moves to 18-2 on the season. They are 3-1 in conference play and sit in 2nd in the EIVA. Their next match will be on Tuesday against Alderson Broaddus University.

With the loss PFW falls to 12-9 on the season. They are 3-4 in conference play and sit at 5th in the MIVA.

PFW will have to play another ranked opponent tomorrow as they face off against #9 Loyola Chicago.

Purdue Fort Wayne’s Softball Team Falls in a Close Contest with Butler

Purdue Fort Wayne’s softball team fell 4-5 tonight against Butler in a close contest that was decided in the final inning. This game was PFW’s home opener.

The game started with Butler taking a 0-3 lead over PFW as Kennedy Peckinpaugh allowed three runs in the 1st inning before being replaced by Grace Brinkerhoff.

Peckingpaugh ended the day with an ERA of 31.50. This moves her ERA on the season to 27.00.

PFW eventually got on the score board in the 4th inning as they scored two runs. They doubled their score in the 5th inning taking a 4-3 lead over Butler.

PFW’s Alyson Quinlan took over pitching in the 6th inning. She ended up getting the loss as she allowed two runs in the 7th which made the final score 4-5.

Butler’s Rylyn Dyer was credited with the win and Sydney Cammon got the save.

PFW’s Brooke Wintlend was the team’s best batter today as she went 2/3 with one of the hits being a home run. She scored one run herself and drove in two RBI’s.

With the win, Butler moves to 8-18 on the season. Their next matchup will be Friday against St. John’s. This will be the first of a three game series.

With the loss, PFW falls to 5-16 on the season. Their next games will be March 21st against Youngstown State as the two teams will play a double header.

Purdue Fort Wayne Women’s Basketball Team’s Season Comes to an End in Loss to Green Bay.

Purdue Fort Wayne women’s basketball team fell to top seeded Green Bay last night in a 69-65 loss. This loss in the Horizon League Semifinal marks the end of PFW’s season.

The Mastodons put up a good fight against the top seeded Green Bay. PFW looked good as they took a 17-7 lead in the 1st quarter. This hot start faded as they were only able to hold onto a tie at the half. In the third quarter they ended up being down five. In the 4th quarter the team fought back and got the score within four. While they still lost, they were able to keep the game competitive.

PFW shot good from the line but did not shoot well from the field or from three. The team shot 40.0% from the field and 25.8% from three. The team shot perfect from the free throw line going nine for nine.

Green Bay had a slightly better shooting performance as they shot 41.4% from the field, 40.0% from three and 86.7% from the free throw line.

Shayla Sellers, in her last game with the team, led PFW with 21 points, three rebounds, two assists, one block and two steals. Green Bay was led by Cassie Schiltz who had 17 points, seven rebounds and one assist.

PFW had a good defensive night against Green Bay. As a team PFW had 11 steals and three blocks. Amellia Bromenschenkel led the team with four steals. Sellers, Bromenschenkel and Jazzlyn Linbo each had one block.

Green Bay also performed well defensively as the team had seven blocks and five steals. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz led the team with five blocks. Bailey Butler led the team, in steals, with three.

With their win Green Bay has moved on to play in today’s Horizon League Women’s Championship against Cleveland State. This matchup is the top seed against the second seed.

PFW ends their season with a 14-19 record. They ended their season as the 6th seed in the Horizon League. PFW only had three seniors this year, Riley Ott, Sellers and Sylare Starks, so the team will have a majority of their team return next year to try to make it past the semifinals.

Purdue Fort Wayne Women’s Basketball Team Defeats IUPUI In Quarterfinal of the Horizon League Tournament.

Purdue Fort Wayne women’s basketball team defeats IUPUI tonight in a 73-69 victory. With this win PFW moves onto the Horizon League semifinals. PFW had a strong lead for most of the game but IUPUI tied it with 3:10 left in the game. PFW retook the lead and closed out the game.

The Mastodons had a great shooting night as they went 53% from the field, 57% from three and 57% from the line. IUPUI could not connect at that level as they shot 43% from the field, 25% from three and 65% from the free throw line.

PFW was led offensively tonight by Amellia Bromenschenkel who had 18 points, three rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. IUPUI was led by Jazmyn Turner who had 24 points, 12 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal.

IUPUI had the edge in rebounds tonight as they had 38 compared to PFW’s 24. IUPUI was led in this stat by Turner who had 12 rebounds. PFW was led by Aubrey Stupp in this stat who had seven boards.

With this loss IUPUI’s season came to an end. They ended the season with a 17-12 record. They were 3rd in the Horizon League.

PFW will play in the Horizon League tournament semifinals on Monday.

Purdue Fort Wane Men’s Basketball Team Falls to Detroit Mercy in the First Round of the Horizon League Tournament.

Purdue Fort Wayne men’s basketball team‘s season ended tonight in a 66-81 loss to Detroit mercy.

The Mastodons had a poor shooting night as they went 38.3% from the field, 28.6% from three and 75.0% from the free throw line. Detroit Mercy shot far better as they went 47.5% from the field, 40.0% from three and 81.3% from the free throw line.

PFW was led on offense tonight by Bobby Planutis. Planutis led the mastodons with 20 points, one assist, six rebounds and three steals. Detroit Mercy was led by Antoine Davis who had 38 points, eight assists, eight rebounds and four steals.

Detroit had the edge in tonight in rebounds. Detroit had 37 rebounds compared to PFW who had 34. Detroit was led in this stat by Davis who had eight. PFW was led in this stat by Planutis who had six.

With the win Detroit Mercy move on to play in the tournaments second round on Thursday.

With the loss PFW comes to an end.

The Mastodons took a step back this year after last years success. PFW was second in the Horizon League last season and were the regular season champions. This year they fall in the first round of the tournament and end the season 6th in the Horizon League.
