Purdue Fort Wayne Men’s Volleyball Season Comes to an End After Loss to Lewis University In the MIVA Tournament

Purdue Fort Wayne men’s volleyball team’s season came to an end on Saturday as they lost to Lewis University in the quarterfinals of the MIVA tournament.

PFW lost 1-3 to Lewis with set score being 15-25, 18-25, 25-16 and 36-38. The Mastodons fought to avoid elimination, but the extended fourth set proved too much for the team.

Lewis outperformed PFW in almost every statistic.

Lewis beat PFW in kills as they had 63 compared to PFW’s 55. Christian Prayer led Lewis in this stat with 17 kills. PFW’s Jon Diedrich had a game high 19 kills.

The stat of blocks was a closer contest between the teams as Lewis had seven and PFW had six. Antonio Elias Rodriguez of Lewis had a game high five blocks. PFW was led in this stat by Ryan Steponaitis who had four.

PFW had more errors and a lower hitting percent than Lewis as PFW had 21 errors and hit .270% compared to Lewis who had 15 errors and hit .403%.

The only stat that PFW had the edge in was aces as they had five while Lewis only had three. Mark Frazier had a game high four aces. Lewis had three different players who had one ace.

PFW finished this season 16-13 in total and 7-7 in conference play. After a hot start at the beginning of the year, PFW began to struggle as they faced multiple ranked opponents. The Mastodons ended the season on a three game losing streak.

Jon Diedrich had a great season for PFW as he was an All-MIVA First Team honoree.

After defeating PFW, Lewis will now face NO. 1 Ball State in the MIVA semifinals.

Purdue Fort Wayne Men’s Volleyball Team Falls to MIVA Opponent Lewis University In Four Sets

Purdue Fort Wayne men’s volleyball team loses to Lewis University tonight in four sets. Set scores were 25-23, 18-25, 15-25 and 22-25

The Mastodons came into this match with a better record than Lewis and were on a two match win streak. Lewis came in and dominated PFW.

Lewis outplayed PFW in every statistic tonight. The only stat that PFW led in was attack errors as they had 28 compared to Lewis’ 18.

The Mastodons had a poor hitting match as they hit .093%. Lewis hit .269%. PFW’s player with the best hitting percent was Wilmer Hernandez who hit 1.000%. Lewis best hitting percentage belonged to Tyler Morgan who hit .750%.

Lewis had 47 kills while PFW had 38 kills. Lewis was led in this stat by Max Roquet who had 15 kills. PFW was led by Jon Diedrich who had 14 kills.

With the win Lewis University moves to 14-10 on the season. They are now 5-5 in MIVA play.

With the loss PFW falls to 14-10 on the season. They are now 5-5 in MIVA play. PFW and Lewis are now tied for 5th in the MIVA.

PFW’s next match will be Thursday against Quincy University.

Purdue Fort Wayne Men’s Volleyball Team Defeats McKendree In Fifth Set

Purdue Fort Wayne men’s volleyball team defeated McKendree, 3-2, last night in a tight match. Set scores were 25-23, 25-19, 22-25, 24-26 and 15-13.

PFW’s Mark Frazier had a career day as he had career highs in kills with 19 and digs with 13. He led the team in both these stats while also adding one ace.

McKendree was led by Bryce Wetjen in kills as he had 18. Kevin Schuele led the team in digs with 13.

The Mastodons dominated this match in blocks. They had 17 compared to McKendree’s seven. PFW was led in blocks by Bryce Walker who had eight. McKendree was led by Rolen Lively who had five.

With the loss McKendree fell to 6-11 on the season and 1-9 in MIVA play.

With the win PFW moved to 14-9 on the season and are 5-4 in MIVA play.

PFW’s next match will be tomorrow at 6 against Lewis University. PFW will hope to collect another win to keep their streak alive.

Purdue Fort Wayne Men’s Volleyball Defeats MIVA Opponent McKendree in Four Sets.

Purdue Fort Wayne men’s volleyball team won tonight in four sets, 3-1, against McKendree. Set scores were 25-22, 25-22, 23-25 and 25-20.

After two losses in a row, PFW bounced back with a strong performance against another MIVA opponent.

The Mastodons did not really stand out in any area of the game tonight, as each set was very close. The only areas that PFW led the game in, were serving, hit percentage and blocks.

As a team PFW scored seven aces and only had 14 service errors. McKendree only scored two aces and had 17 service errors. Mark Frazier led all players in this stat with four aces. His teammates, Bryce Walker and Ryan Steponaitis added the rest as Walker had two aces and Steponatis had one. McKendree was led by Tyler Tripp and Kyle Wilson who each had one ace.

PFW had a .205% hitting percentage while McKendree hit .189%. PFW’s best percentage belonged to Steponaitis who hit .571%. McKendree’s Daniel Duggan had a game high .636%.

Just like the other stats mentioned, PFW only had a slight advantage in blocks. The Mastodons had 25 compared to McKendree’s 20. PFW had three players, Frazier, Steponaitis and Walker who each totaled six blocks. McKendree had two players with four blocks, Duggan and Rolen Lively.

While PFW did not lead in team kills, Jon Diedrich led all players in kills with 15. Bryce Wetjen led McKendree with 10 kills.

With the loss McKendree falls to 6-6 on the season and 1-4 in MIVA play. Their next match will be Saturday against #10 ranked Loyola Chicago.

With the win the Mastodons move to 11-4 on the season and 2-3 in MIVA play. The teams next match will be at 7 p.m. on Friday at home against MIVA opponent, Lewis.
